Hola Aya!

I did more traveling in Guatemala… what a beautiful country with great people.  I went to Lake Atitlan.  It is a volcano crater lake in the highlands of Guatemala.   San Pedro volcano in the background. I met a little girl dressed in typical guatemalan clothes.

From Guatemala

Hola Aveny!!!

I’m in Guatemala with Laura (Cayla’s sister-in-law).  I’m having so much fun.  I hope you are enjoying school this year.  I’m so proud that you are studying so hard!

I really had fun going to the market.  I tried on a typical Guatemalan mask and then sat in a  kind of creepy Jesus Chair and a pig chair.  I met two American kids in Guatemala… their names are John and Parker.
Did you enjoy your trip to Atlanta?  Uncle Charlie says that you drew a very nice picture of a dinosaur.
Love,
Bluey

Hi Aya,

dsc01849After visiting Cayla, David and Aveny we stopped in Asheville, North Carolina and visited the Biltmore, the largest home in America with 34 bedrooms and over 250 rooms!  It was huge!  The house even had a bowling alley!

I’m off to Guatemala very soon.  You can read about Guatemala by clicking here.

Eating Out

Miss Myra's Pit BarbecueHi Aya, One of the enjoyable things to do when travelling is to eat at different places with different types of foods.  On this trip we at the Miss Myra’s Pit Barbecue which features a white barbecue sauce found only in the northern regions of Alabama.  In New Orleans we ate at the Couchon Butcher which makes their own meats and sausages…. their sandwiches were excellent.  We also ate at the Bacco, an Italian Creole restaraunt… mmm, mmm good.  On the way home we stopped for lunch in Mobile, Alabama and ate at Wintzell’s Oyster House.  They are famous for their oysters.  They also make Gumbo their own special way and served West Indies Salad (made with jumbo lump crab marinated in oil, vinegar, onions and spices for 24 hours)… boy, were they good!  As you can see, Aunt Cubby and Uncle Charlie love to eat good food…. and oh, I forgot to mention… David smoked some ribs and they were excellent…. well, at least that’s what Uncle Charlie said.  I ate carrots most of the time.

Chattanooga Choo Choo

Hi Ava,

This past week we went on a road trip to New Orleans.  Along the way we stopped in Chattanooga, Tennessee.  We rode the incline to the top of Lookout Mountain. Later we saw the famous Chattanooga Choo Choo.

Crawfish Boil

Hi Aya:

After spending several weeks in Japan I finally returned to the U.S. with Uncle Charlie and Aunt Cubby.  Last week we all visited Cayla, David and Aveny in New Orleans.  One of the highlights of our visit was the crawfish boil that David and his father (Felix) hosted.  The crawfish in New Orleans are huge!  Much bigger than the ones you can find in West Virginia.  They were almost as big as I was.  One of them pinched my hand and also my ear!!!  Aveny is growing up very fast… she is now smiling, laughing, sitting up and almost begining to crawl.  I really had a lot of fun being with Aveny.

Sakura

Hello Aya,

genki?

The cherry blossoms are blooming so beautiful.  Japanese people love cherry blossoms (called sakura in Japanese).

People go on picnic to see sakura. It is called “ohanami” in Japan. Mayuko took me to ohanami with her friends, but unfortunately it started raining at the begining…….. we had to go home.

Schools start in April in Japan. So sakura make people feel starting a new year. Very fresh feeling!

Have you seen sakura before?

I think you can see a bunch of sakura if you go to Washington DC, can’t you?

Bluey

Hello Aya-chan:

Mayuko again went to another friend’s wedding. All her friends seem to be getting married now.

The bride and Mayuko has been good friends for 23 years, which means they met when they were 3 years old!

The bride was so beautiful in the white dress.

Mayuko and another friend, who also has been a friend of hers since they were three, made a speech. They were so nervous!

Mayuko wore “Furisode”(specific kind of Kimono). Japanese girl wear kimono when they celebrate “Coming-Of-Age”.

Mayuko asked me “What do you do when you turn 20 years old in your country? Is 20 years old not special for you? If so, what age is special for American kids?”

Aya chan-

Mayuko took me to her hometown in Nagoya. Did you know your cousin Cayla used to stay in Nagoya for a while?

I’m in the Mayuko’s parents’ garden. This is the typical Japanese style garden.

Can you find me?

Love Bluey
